John 7

Read the chapter here.

A couple very quick thoughts:

Jesus gets sneaky, traveling to the Feast in secret.  Makes me wonder why.

Also, we run into our friend from chapter 3, Nicodemus.  Looks like he's getting a little bolder, beginning to speak up on behalf of Jesus, at least a little bit.  What do you think about that?  What might that mean in to us 2000 years later?

What verse or passage will you memorize from this chapter?

John 6

Click here to read the chapter.

There's no shortage of action in the chapter.  A miraculous meal for thousands.  Walking on water.

There's no shortage of challenging teaching either.  I am the Bread of Life.  Eat my flesh and drink my blood.  What do you make of all that?

What verse or verses can you memorize from this chapter?

John 5

The link - http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=john%205&version=NIV

Questions to get the ball rolling:

The man who was healed at the pool had been an invalid for 38 years.  Is it comforting to know that God keeps a record of the duration of our afflictions?

Jesus tell him later, "stop sinning or something worse may happen to you".  What does He mean?

What do you make of the last half of the chapter, about the authority Jesus has been granted by the Father?

What verse or verses from John 5 will you memorize this week?

John chapter 4

This week we look at chapter 4 the Book of John.  Here's the link if you don't have a Bible nearby.

Try to read it through 4 or 5 times during the week, then come back and leave your comments (click on the comment link below).

A thought or two to get the conversation going:

When Jesus encounters the woman at the well, what can we learn from the way He talks with her about her lifestyle?  What is a verse from this chapter that you'd like to memorize?  What else jumps out at you?

John - chapter 3

This week we're reading John 3.  Pretty good chapter.  Here's the link in case you don't have a Bible handy.  A couple questions to ponder and comment on:

1.  What do you think of Nicodemus?  Is he bold, cowardly, curious, clueless?
2.  How would you imagine yourself having that conversation with Jesus?  What would that be like to be the one who prompts the Lord to talk about being 'born again', and who got to hear the original version of John 3:16?
3.  What can we learn from John the Baptist, particularly in v. 30 - "He must become greater, I must become less."?  Is that encouraging or not?

Feel free to comment on these questions or any other points related to chapter 3...next week - chapter 4!
