Proverbs 20

v. 9 Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin"?

Certainly I cannot say this, Lord.  I am not clean on my own, but only because I am washed in your blood.  Thank you for making me clean.  Thank you for forgiving me.  Help me walk in righteousness, to care as much about what is in my heart as I do about what is seen by others.  Help me walk through the door to which you and you alone have given me the key, the door to holy living.  I need your help.  Amen.

Proverbs 19

v. 22 What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar.

Father, give me a heart that desires truth and righteousness.  Make me a man who would rather be poor than disobey you.  Amen.

Proverbs 18

v. Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.

Lord Jesus, let me be slow to speak and quick to listen.  Help me to know the best way to share my opinions, and to be conscious of and understanding of others.  I am not my own...make me yours in every way.  Let me be holy as you are holy.  Amen.

Proverbs 17

v. 21 To have a fool for a child brings grief; there is no joy for the parent of a godless fool.

Lord, help me to parent well.  Draw my children close to you and keep them on the straight path that leads to life in you.  Let us know the joy of following and worshiping you as individuals and as a family.  Let me bring joy to my parents, and thank you for giving me such incredible parents.  I give you thanks, all glory, honor and praise Jesus.  Amen.

Proverbs 16

v. 32 Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.

Lord Jesus, make me a man who is patient and kind.  Teach me, train me, help me see what you see and love the way you love.  Amen.

Proverbs 15

v. 32 Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.

Lord Jesus, you are my King.  Give me a humble heart to obey you and heed correction.  I want to gain understanding.  I want to live well and live wisely.  I need you and I love you.  Amen.

Proverbs 14

v. 34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.

Lord God, cleanse us from unrighteousness.  Cleanse me from unrighteousness.  Heal our land.  Heal my heart.  We need you so desperately, and I need you so desperately.  Make your home in my heart.  Grab me and pull me close.  Do not let me wander.  Amen.
